How To Correct Your Aadhaar Card Details

Changed your address recently? Is your name on your Aadhaar Card spelt incorrectly? There could be many reasons why you might want the details on your Aadhaar card to be corrected. Luckily, correcting the details on your Aadhaar card is neither complicated nor does it take much time.

As long as you follow any of the methods mentioned below, it can be done very easily. You can update information such as change of name, address and mobile number. Here are three ways this can be done.

Go Online

  • First, you need to visit uidai.gov.in. This is the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website and is the official Government website for Aadhaar.
  • Click on the ‘Update Aadhaar Details (Online)’ link.
  • You will be redirected to the Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal.
  • When you click on the link to update your Aadhaar, you will be asked to enter your Aadhaar number along with a text verification code.
  • You will receive a One Time Password (OTP) on your registered mobile number.
  • This OTP helps authenticate your identity.
  • Update the data with the correct information.
  • Upload documents as proof supporting this update.
  • Voila! Your Aadhaar details will get updated.

Post It

  • Visit uidai.gov.in.
  • Click on ‘Update Request By Post’.
  • Download the Update Form.
  • Fill in all the details along with the information change.
  • Send the form with supporting documents to either of the UIDAI offices in Hyderabad and Madhya Pradesh.
  • Check the below snapshot for the supporting documents.
  • The addresses are: UIDAI, Post Box Number 10, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh – 480001 or UIDAI, Post Box Number 99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034.

Visit PEC

  • Go to a Permanent Enrolment Centre (PEC).
  • You can update your data as well as biometric details at a PEC.
  • PECs charge a nominal fee of Rs. 15 for the service.
  • You need to update the biometric details of your children when they turn 5 years old and 15 years old respectively.

Even though Aadhaar card linking has made been made mandatory for many things such as your bank account, there are benefits to having an Aadhaar card too. Some of them include:

  • LPG Subsidy – Get your Aadhaar card linked to your LPG connection and get the subsidy right in your bank account.
  • Passport – If you have an Aadhaar card you can get your passport within 10 days of applying for it. Here, police verification is done at a later date.
  • Jan Dhan Yojana – You can open this bank account using only your Aadhaar card.
  • E-verify your IT return – You can verify your IT return using your Aadhaar linked bank account.

An Aadhaar card is as important as a PAN card, if not more important. It can, of course, be used as proof of identity as well. In fact, the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) also accepts Aadhaar as proof of address. Don’t forget to flash it when you are investing in Mutual Funds.
