Looking To Get Hitched? Here Are Four Whacky Ways You Can Fund Your Wedding

By | October 27, 2018

If, for some reason, you and your significant other decide to get hitched, here are four whacky ways to fund your wedding without having to take to the streets with a begging bowl.

If you’re a Lord of the Rings fan, then you’ve probably heard the phrase ‘one ring to rule them all’. While it’s possible these words sent a shiver up the spines of bachelors everywhere, it probably also reminded couples planning for their big day that they need to save up for their wedding as soon as possible.

While it’s no secret that weddings are a costly affair these days, there are ways you can circumvent the overhead costs that the occasion will potentially cost you by thinking way out of the box. Sure, you could do it the tried and tested way, like you know, saving money or bugging your folks until they slap a restraining order on you. But where’s the fun in that?

If you and your better half’s idea of spending time together is guffawing at cringe video compilations on YouTube all day while milk pours out of your nostrils, here are four whacky ways you can raise money for your big day.

  • Start An Online Crowdfunding Campaign

Crowdfunding is all the rage these days. You can start a campaign to fund just about anything under the sun – right from business ventures, charitable causes, relief efforts and even downright weird events like an elephant costume party (don’t ask!).

All you need to do is register yourself on any of the myriad of crowdfunding platforms on the net and you’re all set. You could promote your campaign via social media or any communication channel you think works for best for you. You can target family and friends, which is basically a great way to shame them into contributing towards your wedding without actually shaming them.

You could come up with interesting and funny video content to go with your campaign and if you’re feeling really adventurous, you could open it up to receive contributions from anyone under the sun. You never know. A mystery benefactor could generously spring for the whole shebang, elephant costumes included.

  • Wedding Tourism

If you think this means travelling to exotic places after you tie the knot, think again! Wedding tourism involves selling tickets to your wedding.

Wait, what?

Yup, that’s right! Start-ups like ‘Join My Wedding’ offer tour packages to foreign tourists who are interested in attending Indian weddings so they can experience all the hullabaloo that goes with them. Recently, a couple of Australian travellers coughed up approximately 200 dollars each for a chance to attend a two-day wedding in India.

Sounds like money in the bank? Well, it certainly seems to be, especially since the wedding industry in India is estimated to be worth over 40 billion dollars. Not only is it a great way to raise cash, your wedding could also feature the added novelty of your family and friends gawking at complete strangers as you walk down the aisle.

And 30 years later, you’ll even get a chance to completely bamboozle your grandkids by telling them you have no idea who those people are in your wedding album.

Sounds like a good deal all around!

  • Busking

Busking isn’t particularly common in India but if you and your to-be-spouse have a decent set of vocal chords and can string together a tune on whatever instrument you fancy, you may have a shot at raising some extra cash for your wedding. All you need is a sidewalk to showcase your talent. But make sure you get permission from the local authorities first or you could end up tying the knot in front of a prison full of goons.

Of course, raising money this way could take a long, LONG time, but if you start a few years in advance, who knows how much you might end up with? At the very least, you’ll probably get better at music and the two of you could cut your own album and sell it to pay for your wedding.

Actually, on second thought, it might be easier to just grovel before your parents.

  • Take To YouTube

You’ve probably heard about how people have monetised their YouTube channels and are now earning a living off of it right? Well, do you know what these channels have in common? You guessed it! They have a TON of subscribers and viewers.

But how do you get hundreds of thousands of people who have an incredible amount of time on their hands to subscribe to your channels/videos? Well, for starters, you could put up really goofy videos of you and your fiancé doing strange things, like watering the lawn while doing handstands or jumping head first in a field full of cacti. Ok, scratch that last bit. Literally.

In essence, figure out what people like to watch and do something no one has ever done before. Kind of like the guy who decided it would be a good idea to snort grounded chillies. We aren’t quite sure what possessed him to do something like that but who doesn’t love watching a grown man bawl his eyes out while gasping for water?

But hey, if this stuff is too extreme for you, maybe you could start your own travel or cooking channel. Just make sure you put your own unique spin on it. That should get people interested for sure!
