Meet the Team – Data Services (Technology)

The Data Services team! Sounds daunting? Trust us, our Data Services Team is awe-inspiring! They’re a bunch of simple, level-headed earthlings who love to work hard and play harder. Excited to know more about them? Let’s find out then!

What do they do?

The Data Services (Technology) team is mainly concerned with collecting, storing and handling huge amounts of data, both internal and external. This data is extremely useful for personalisation and targeted marketing. And this is critical to the functioning of BankBazaar.com which is obsessed with its customers and their experience on our platform. The team aims to build agile data services that adapt to business requirements.

Brought to life in October 2015, this team quickly built the personalisation engine from scratch. Anantha Padmanabha, the Software Development Manager, believes that data is very important, but so is personalisation of data. He says, “If there is no personalisation, then the experience and conversions are low. That is why we work towards personalising emails and offering recommendations to our valued customers.” These guys also introduced the Big Data system in BankBazaar.

The Team

The Data Services team is a small team with just five members – a Software Development Manager, a Technical Lead, a Senior Software Development Engineer and two Software Development engineers. Don’t let the size fool you though; this team is capable of handling all the big stuff, without a single hiccup.

What’s a typical day like?

Well, it all starts with the team scrum which kick-starts around 11:15 AM.

Team members have the flexibility of time – well, as long as they don’t miss the daily scrum! However, even with the flexi-timing, they always ensure that there is someone from the team available for assistance when there is a need. Hats off to the dedication, guys!

What happens in the scrum? Well, the usual. They discuss their work, put forward their issues and even contribute ideas to help each other out.

After the scrum, they usually head to their respective seats. But you definitely won’t find them glued to their seats, sprouting shoots like potatoes. Rather, they’re seen all around the place. Their work involves a lot of intra-team coordination and interaction. Do they mind? Not at all! They love it. They believe that this helps in team building.

And of course, the stress buster! After all, all work and no play can make anyone a dull person. The ‘Data’ guys de-stress over a few games of intense foosball.

What’s even better?

They have a quarterly team budget, which is solely dedicated to fun-filled team dinners and other recreational team activities. And for boosting their knowledge, the team holds two weekly knowledge-sharing sessions, one within their team and one with the entire BankBazaar technology team stationed at Bangalore.

Work, fun and lots of learning – one couldn’t ask for anything more from their workplace, could they?

How do they find BankBazaar?

These guys are completely gung-ho about BankBazaar. They attributed learning, a sense of belongingness and open communication to BankBazaar. They find it demanding yet easy-going and relaxed.

“It is so easy to approach anyone within the organisation. There is no hierarchy as such,” Anantha Padmanabha says. Vinod Jayachandran, the Technical Lead, adds, “I can easily pitch my ideas concerning anything, even HR-related changes, to anyone. Even the big shots. BankBazaar is like a closely-knit family.”

They believe that the organisation provides them high-end learning, along with an ample supply of freedom and guidance. They are also big fans of BankBazaar’s ability to implement changes and deliver projects quickly.

Want to be a part of this awesome team?

You could be if you’re truly passionate about Big Data. And you need to be awesome at solving problems, creating algorithms and designing.

Vinod Jayachandran adds, “We don’t believe in titles. We are looking for proactive, down-to-earth candidates who are ready to pitch in whenever there is a demand.”
