By | November 23, 2018

Is the OnePlus 6T as impressive as the OnePlus 6? Is it worth buying? Here’s what we think about it.

OnePlus 6T review

Bye-bye, headphone jack! Hello, inbuilt fingerprint sensor, teardrop notch and a bigger battery!

The OnePlus 6 was, actually still is, a super hit, but are these teeny-weeny updates that the OnePlus 6T features really worth it? Should you ditch your OnePlus 6 (or whatever it is that you are currently holding in your hand) for the OnePlus 6T? Let’s find out.

For starters, the OnePlus 6T does bring new technology (we’re talking about the inbuilt fingerprint sensor in particular) and a few decent improvements to the table. However, if you already own the OnePlus 6, these changes aren’t that pronounced to actually dragoon you to make the switch. But still, the 6T, just like the 6, is still a class apart from the rest of its competition.

Let’s quickly take a look at the OnePlus 6T’s specs:

Feature Specs
Display 6.41-inch AMOLED with 402 ppi
Operating System (OS) Android 9 Pie, OxygenOS
Camera Rear – Dual camera, 16 MP and 20 MP

Front – 16 MP

RAM 6 GB, 8 GB
Internal Storage 128 GB, 256 GB
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, Octa-core, Adreno 630 GPU
Battery 3,700 mAh, Fast Charge
Miscellaneous Inbuilt fingerprint reader, Alert slider
Colours Mirror Black, Midnight Black, Thunder Purple

Our Verdict

Display – Great!

A tad bit bigger than the OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 6T adopted the smaller teardrop notch, providing more screen space. The 6.41-inch AMOLED screen is super immersive – you’ll love to play games and view content on this gorgeous display. (Our rating – 5 stars)

Design And Durability – Not much has changed!

The 6T basically mirrors the 6 when it comes to design. One major change is that the 6T dropped the headphone jack and the physical fingerprint sensor. Everything else is pretty much the same as the OnePlus 6. And we already did love the 6’s design. (Our rating – 4 stars)
P.S. we suggest that you use a case or cover to protect your phone.

Performance – Impressive!

Just like its older sibling, this one is truly a beast too. The OS is fast and responsive. You’ll barely experience any lags even if you’re using heavy applications. The phone overall is so fluid and zippy that you just won’t want to put it down at all. (Our rating – 5 stars)

Camera – Low-light shots are amazing!

The camera setup is pretty much the same as the OnePlus 6. So, you can expect some classy photos and videos from this device too. Low-light photography, however, was a concern with the OnePlus 6. But OnePlus has brought upon software tweaks to improve it. Night Mode is what they call it – click your late-night party photos via this mode if you’d like to treasure them. By the way, Night Mode is available for the OnePlus 6 too. (Our rating – 4 stars)

Battery – Runs for a day easily!

The 6T gets the biggest battery upgrade any OnePlus smartphone has got recently. It’s a straight jump from the 3,300 mAh (OnePlus 6) to 3,700 mAh. The 3,300 mAh battery of the 6 had enough juice to make it through the day. So, you can expect the 6T to do a much better job. Anyway, you get the Fast Charger, so you wouldn’t really have to worry about running out of battery. (Our rating – 4 stars for the battery life; 5 stars for the Fast Charger)

Inbuilt fingerprint reader – We’re sold, totally!

One thing we totally loved about this device is the inbuilt fingerprint reader. Of course, Face Unlock is great, but the fingerprint sensor is fun to use, thanks to the animation. Plus, it is super-fast too. We totally dig it! (Our rating – 5 stars)

Overall rating – 4.5 stars

So, Should You Buy It Or Not?

Well, it’s totally up to you. If you’re stuck with the OnePlus 3T or any other old Android device and want something new, then you should totally go for it. Considering what the phone offers, the 6T’s retail price of Rs. 37,999 (for the 6 GB/128 GB variant) is completely justified. In short, it’s totally worth it.

Plus, if you make the purchase using your Citi Debit or Credit Card, you’ll get a flat Rs. 1,500 cash back. But you have to hurry if you don’t want to miss this amazing cashback offer on Amazon.
