Plan A Killer FIFA World Cup Party On A Tiny Budget

Have you always been meaning to get a bunch of friends over for a few cold ones and a night of football on the telly? Well, if you’ve been putting it off for whatever reason, now’s your chance to get your foot out of your mouth and your head in the game.

With the World Cup currently in full swing, it can certainly be tempting to hit the nearest pub and catch a few games. But that would probably have your wallet crying foul every time you swipe your Credit Card or Debit Card.

While some people do get carried away with all the fervour surrounding the World Cup, even booking expensive, last-minute tickets to Russia to soak in the atmosphere in person, there’s no reason why you can’t have a great World Cup experience with a bunch of friends right in the comfort of your own home.

So, without further ado, here’s how you can plan an absolutely righteous World Cup party on a shoestring budget.

  1. Snack Attack

Ordering in, especially for a party, can certainly cost you a pretty penny. However, since it’s the World Cup, you can be sure all eyes are going to be glued to your TV screen. A heavy meal will probably be the last thing on anyone’s mind, so get creative and come up with some cool snacks everyone can munch on throughout the night.

Chips and dip are an all-time match-day favourite, so you certainly can’t go wrong there. Incredibly easy to make and extremely light on the pocket, this is one snack that is guaranteed to keep everyone munching along without a care in the world, especially if there’s an abundance of football ‘spirit’ to go around.

  1. Stream Dream

Forget about expensive cable subscriptions or exorbitant dish TV pay-per-view charges. Now you can watch the entire World Cup for as little as Rs. 99 by just downloading the Sony Live app. This app lets subscribers live stream all the World Cup action for a pittance. In fact, it also offers game previews, analysis and condensed match highlights so you won’t miss even an iota of what transpires in every game.

And if you’re feeling really cheap, you could still watch all the matches for free, albeit with a five-minute delay compared to the live feed. All you have to do is register yourself on the app and you’re good to go.

  1. Sink That Drink

Of course, no World Cup party can even be considered a party without getting into the ‘spirit’ of things. If you aren’t too keen on plumping for the drinks yourself, you could always tell your friends it’s a BYOB party. That should save you a nice chunk of change without compromising the evening’s fun factor.

And if you’re feeling a little fruity (not under your armpits hopefully), you could come up with your very own homemade cocktails and fruit punches. There are a ton of cool recipes online that are super easy to follow. Once you’ve sent a few down the hatch you’ll be cheering on your favourite team like never before. That’s when your cup will truly runneth over.

But try and refrain from streaking down the street once you’re done. No one wants to see that!

  1. Get Crafty

There’s no better way to get into World Cup mode than by decorating your place with all things football. Put your thinking hat on and get creative. Scatter a few footballs around your living room to get things rolling. How about replicating flags of your favourite teams using old clothes or unused material and hook them up on your walls or on your ceiling?

Alternatively, you could even rifle through old sports magazines and put up posters of footballers or even take printouts of your favourite squads and hang them up everywhere. Why not also use some cardboard or thermocol and make your own gigantic World Cup calendar, complete with a table for scores, points and goal scorers.

In short, turn your home into a World Cup carnival of sorts. You can be sure it will leave your friends with a lasting impression.

Just don’t leave your balls lying around where people can’t see them.

  1. Arty-Farty

Here’s a nifty idea. Buy some paint or steal some from your niece and paint your favourite team’s flags on yourselves. Deck up your faces or if you’re feeling adventurous maybe even your bodies as well. That’s a sure-fire way of getting your World Cup party off to a raucous start.

Not only is it a lot of fun, but a bunch of painted football fans who have had a bit too much to drink can make for hilarious YouTube and Instagram videos. That’s one way of showing the world that you throw a mean party.
