Forms and documents required for re-registration
In order to re-register your vehicle, you need to keep these documents handy:
- Download Form 25 from the official website (http://megtransport.gov.in/pdf/form25.pdf) and fill it in.
- The original Registration Certificate of the vehicle
- A Pollution Under Control certificate issued by the traffic authorities
- Valid copy of the Car Insurance documents
- Copy of road tax paid
- 3 passport-size photographs
Once you have these documents ready, visit the nearby RTO office and produce your vehicle before the registering authority for inspection. Your car shouldn’t be too noisy and the brakes, lights, horns and other parts must be in working condition. The RTO authorities will thoroughly check your vehicle, with specific attention to these aspects, before issuing the new certificate.
Other documents
You also need to keep handy valid proof of your present and permanent address and your identification proof, and present them along with the duly filled Form 25.
Also, if you have purchased the vehicle with a Car Loan, you need to submit an NOC document from the banking authorities. You also need to submit a copy of the tax-paid certificate issued by the traffic authorities confirming that you do not have any pending dues.
Re-registration fees
The re-registration fee for private vehicles varies from one state to another. It is charged as per the fee specified in Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Typically, it may range between Rs. 250 to Rs. 500 for private vehicles.
You need to pay the registration fee at the RTO cash counter, collect the receipt and submit it to the registering authorities along with the other documents.
Once all the documents are verified and your vehicle has been tested and proved to be in working condition, the new registration certificate will be issued by the RTO authorities.
