By | September 16, 2010

Car manufacturer Ford India said it intends to introduce 8 new models in India by mid-decade, with an aim of capturing the country’s rapidly rising car market and make it an export hub.

MD Michael Boneham said that a major chunk of the 8 products would be “localised”.

He also said the company ‘has to be there in the small car segment’. But he did not disclose details or acknowledge if it would imply being present in the below Rs three-lakh category.

Boneham was talking while inaugurating the Ford Endeavour 3 litre 4×2 automatic transmission model.

Looking at the response obtained in India Boneham said that Figo received a “fantastic” response where 30,000 cars were old in the 1st 25 weeks in India. Boneham said that the company “plans to be a serious player in India” and will “continue to invest in India” to increase and signify our presence throughout these sectors.
