Car manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), said it will be introducing a new sports utility vehicle (SUV) in the Indian market within a year’s time.
Pawan Goenka, Mahindra and Mahindra’s Auto and Farm Equipment Sector’s President said, “We will be launching the vehicle in the first quarter of FY 12.
The new SUV, will be “more premium” than the present product of Scorpio, Goenka said.
Indo-American JV, Mahindra Navistar, introduced a 25-tonne truck saying the vehicle would change the Indian market.
The truck costs nearly Rs 15-lakh, which the company’s executives say is slightly higher than competition.
Pawan Goenka said, “We are betting on the Indian market and feel that things will only head up from here and we feel there would be a demand for the kind of quality and comfort which we are offering”.
The new offering has superior cabin design and a more powerful engine which will increase the profitability of the fleet-owner despite the slightly higher costs he will be incurring, the company said.
A company official said, “It has advantages for everyone. For the driver, it is lower fatigue levels, for the fleet manager it is lower maintenance while for the owner, it will ensure better returns on investment,” and also said that nearly all the parts of the truck are local.
