By | July 30, 2010

Maruti Suzuki, which reported a 20.3% decline in profit in the 1st quarter, anticipates the revamped Alto, its biggest selling model, to assist it to retain its portion of the aggressive Indian passenger car market.

The Alto, fitted with a new 1,000cc engine, will be introduced in the 1st week of August. A leading Maruti official said, “We hope to expand overall sales for the lower A-segment, comprising M800, Nano, Alto and the standard variant of Santro, by at least 25 percent. Our expectation is to sell an additional 7,500 units of Alto every month. This additional volume will help us retain market share in the burgeoning passenger car industry”.

As of now, 30,000 units are sold every month in the junior A-segment. The extra figures from the new Alto, as per the company anticipation, will help an extra sale of 90,000 units per year.
