In a market that is chock-full of budget-friendly devices that offer everything you’d need/want in a smartphone, will the OnePlus 7 Pro make a mark? Read on.
One of the most anticipated phones of the year, the OnePlus 7 Pro, was launched recently on the 14th of May. The phone that marks OnePlus’ entry into unchartered territory in terms of pricing hit the Amazon marketplace on the 16th of May, starting at Rs. 48,999 for the base variant (6 GB RAM + 128 GB Storage).
The top variant that offers 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage will be available only from the 28th of May and will cost you a whopping Rs. Rs. 57,999. There is also a mid-variant that offers 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, available at Rs. 52,999.
Pricy much, huh? Well, if you hold an SBI Credit Card, you can get up to Rs. 2,000 instant discount on the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro range. Don’t have a Credit Card? Apply here.
Well, now that you are aware of the pricing, let’s discuss if the OnePlus 7 Pro is worth a buy or not, shall we? First things first – here’s everything you need to know about the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Performance
The OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 processor and 6 GB/8 GB/ 12 GB RAM options depending on the variant you choose. So, rest assured, the phone is superfast and smooth with no glitches whatsoever even if you are a power user. And, we must also say that this OnePlus device is great for gaming – no lags or drops in frame rate at all.

Display
It’s a brilliant 6.67-inch AMOLED display! The Pro’s 90 Hz display is crisp, fluid and smooth. And it’s a notch-less display, so, of course, you get a lot of screen estate to enjoy your favourite games, videos and even books in QHD+ resolution. The edge-to-edge curved design further adds to the immersive viewing experience on this device.
The display also hosts the inbuilt fingerprint sensor that, as claimed by OnePlus, unlocks the device in just 0.21 seconds. Well, we can’t really comment on the time taken to unlock the device, but we can surely say that screen unlock is superfast (and way better than the 7 Pro’s predecessor – the 6T).
Camera
Three rear cameras and a pop-up selfie camera! Whoa! OnePlus’ cameras have been nothing short of amazing. Don’t you agree? Well, if you haven’t used a OnePlus device, you wouldn’t know. We get that.
Anyway, coming back to the Pro’s cameras, you’ll find three cameras at the rear, along with a dual LED flash. The main camera that is a whopping 48 MP Sony lens is accompanied by an 8 MP telephoto lens and a 16 MP ultra-wide angle lens. Photos and videos taken with this device, be it during the day or at night, look just amazing. Try it and see for yourself, if you don’t believe us.
For the selfie-freaks, there’s a 16 MP pop-up camera that is neatly tucked inside the upper body of the device. Don’t doubt it coz this pop-camera is designed to last. OnePlus claims that you can take more than 150 selfies everyday for the next five and a half years without having to worry about the pop-up camera wearing out. Kinda cool, ain’t it?

Few more features that are truly impressive
- The pop-up front camera of the device is smartly designed. It automatically pops back inside the phone if it detects that the device has been dropped.
- The improved Night Sight mode assures you great shots in low-light conditions.
- The 7 Pro is the first smartphone launched with UFS 3.0 memory.
- OnePlus has incorporated a 10-layer liquid cooling system to ensure that the device stays cool through prolonged use.
- OnePlus has bid goodbye to its Dash Charger. The OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a Warp Charger that has a higher output of 30 watts, hence you can expect your phone’s battery to charge at lightning speed.
- Dual stereo speakers complement the immersive cinematic experience the OnePlus 7 Pro’s display provides.
But we missed these…
- The OnePlus 7 Pro doesn’t offer wireless charging. Not a deal breaker for us, anyway.
- No rating for water resistance still. This is kinda a deal breaker, isn’t it?
- Sadly, they stuck to their ‘no headphone jack’ strategy. Gosh, we miss the OnePlus 6 already!

Final thoughts
In a market that is chock-full of budget-friendly devices that offer everything you’d need/want in a smartphone, will the One Plus 7 Pro make a mark? For us, it has already made a mark. It is indeed one of the best phones of this year so far. But as far as the smartphone market is concerned, only time will tell whether the phone is a hit or a miss. Let’s give OnePlus some slack for now.
