Czech car manufacturer Skoda said it will launch a small car in the Indian market in the initial part of 2012, which will cost Rs 3-5 lakh (Rs 300,000-500,000).
The company, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, will also launch its sports utility vehicle, Yeti, and a watered-down variant of its high-end hatchback, Fabia, in India by this year-end.
Besides that, it will introduce a sedan costing Rs 6-10 lakh (Rs 600,000-1 million) in 2011.
Thomas Kuehl, SkodaAuto India board member and director (sales and marketing) said, “We had announced to roll out one new model every year. As part of this strategy, we will enter the volume segment and will launch a small car in early 2012”.
The construction of the car is on and the company will introduce the model in petrol as well as diesel variants.
When queried about the expected price tag of the vehicle, he said: “It will be below the Fabia… Our aim is to price in the Rs 3-5 lakh category.”
