Volkswagen India is all geared to Motor sport in a totally new direction this year with the introduction the Polo Cup races in India. The Polo Cup India season is set to begin from the 19th June 2010, with total 6 races. This is the first Polo Cup in India.
The high point of this Cup is that it is an excellent procreation ground for novice racers, who can then go on to the bigger cars and the top levels of motor sport. In India, Volkswagen intends to capture the young talent and the first Indian Polo Cup is expected to throw up plenty of surprises. Here the company will shortlist 20 drivers in the ages from 16-24 and will be offered company owned Volkswagen Polo Cup cars, whose maintenance costs will be borne totally by the company.
The VW Polo Cup car will have a 1.6 liter diesel engine to power it that provides a 130 BHP. It is for the first time in the history of Indian motor sport a diesel engine has been used to drive a racing car.
The first is scheduled to be a part of the 2010 JK National Championship event and is scheduled to be held in Pune and the other 5 races taking place in Chennai and Coimbatore.
