Ashok Leyland starts biggest production unit in Uttarakhand

Ashok Leyland’s new commercial vehicle unit at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand, inaugurated on Friday, is believed to be its biggest production unit. Spread over 190 acres with a built up area of 2 lakh sq mt., it is also one of the complete production units in the Indian commercial vehicle sector.

The company said,” Best in class industrial architecture combined with the latest manufacturing technologies has created a truly modern facility that is also ecology sensitive as reflected in the selection of machinery and processes”.

The company has invested more than Rs 1100 crore to generate a capacity of 75.000 vehicles over and above the present 1 lakh capacity in the current plants. Because of the tax concessions in this State, it will get a cost benefit of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per vehicle.

The factory was inaugurated by Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal, and the function was attended by Union Minister for heavy industries and public enterprises, Vilasrao Deshmukh and company officials.

This plant has the most advanced equipment imported from leading companies in Japan, US and Europe and India. It is very energy efficient and meant to be operator friendly. It uses lean production principles and process control for superior quality output.
