Bengal has approached World Bank’s aid for technical education

A recent press report said that the West Bengal government has approached the World Bank to prepare a road map for the development of technical education in the State.

Mr. Rabiranjan Chattopadhyay, State Technical Education Minister, who was speaking at a seminar organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on employment and employability focus in the State, said that the technical education department is in the process of identifying and introducing 100 per cent job-oriented training programs.

Mr. Dilip Chenoy, managing director and CEO, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), said that the skill development market is estimated to be $20 billion annually. He said that a NSDC pilot project on skill development is to be started in Haryana in August 2011 and that the organisation would support projects to bring disabled people into the mainstream.

Mr. Chenoy also said that NSDC was planning to fund a pilot project to improve the skill levels of disabled workers carrying out “kantha” stitching works in Rampurhat in Birbhum district of West Bengal.
