BNP Paribas has planned to expand Japan technology research team

According to a recent press report BNP Paribas SA has planned to expand its team that researches Japanese technology companies as it sees many of these firms thriving on exports of niche products.

Weiyee In, head of technology, media and technology research at BNP Paribas Securities Asia Ltd, said that banks would soon hire a fifth analyst for the team, before expanding further longer-term. Also a Hong Kong based In said that it wants to highlight and cover things that Japan does that lead the rest of the world.

Reports said that stocks that In’s team covers in Japan include Kakaku Com , the operator of a website that enables consumers to compare product prices, and Ulvac Inc, which manufactures equipment used to make liquid crystal displays, semiconductors and solar cells.

BNP has hired Kunihiko Kanno from Credit Suisse Securities to be In’s co-head of equity research. It has around 30 staff focusing on telecom, media and technology research in Asia.

BNP Paribas is a European leader in global banking and financial services and one of the strongest banks in the world (Rated AA by Standard & Poor’s i.e. 3rd rating on a scale of 22). The core banking teams in India is involved in Term Lending & Working Capital Finance through rupee term loans, foreign currency loans for external commercial borrowings and extending service to clients through Working Capital Financing facilities.
