By | February 2, 2010

The Orissa government has planned to generate exclusive land banks for industrialization. This is being done in order to encounter the issues of getting land for many projects undertaken by the state.

The revenue minister of the state, S N Patro said that he has asked the district collectors to hoard land for main industries and their subsidiaries in the districts under their charge. He stated this at the gathering of collectors of southern revenue division, which was attended by many senior officers of numerous departments and collectors of 10 southern districts. With this, the government plans to eliminate the obstacles in land acquisition by the companies.

Nearly every leading industrial house that has entered into memoranda of understanding with the government for establishing their projects in the state, have encountered problems, as affected people are reluctant to empty the selected land and are opposed to selling their land.

Some affected projects include Posco, Tata Steel, Arceal Mittal and various aluminum projects. Under this move, the government plans to compensate the affected persons under the state government policy on resettlement and rehabilitation formulated in 2006. With this move the government has solved the problem facing the industry and people in one stroke.
