Maruti, Hyundai record excellent growth in sales in March

Maruti Suzuki has become the first Indian company to sell more than a million passenger cars during this fiscal , with as many as 1,018,365 cars being sold from its showrooms during 2009-10.

The company sold 870,790 vehicles in the local market and exported 147,575 cars from India. Both these figures were the best-ever, Maruti Suzuki said.

The company’s total sales went up by a remarkable 29%, despite the tough market conditions in 2009-10.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd, India’s 2nd biggest car producer obtained record sales of 31,501 units for March, 2010 in the local market, recording 27.3% increase over the same month previous year.

HMIL’s total sales for March, 2010 were 55,035 units as compared to 46,159 units in March, 2009 posting 19.2% cumulative growth. The local sales made up for 31,501 units (which is the highest as HMIL began operations in 1998) as compared to 24,754 units in March, 2009 while the exports went up from 21,405 units in March, 2009 to 23,534 units in March, 2010 showing 9.9% growth YOY.

For the quarter ending Jan – March, 2010 HMIL posted a growth of 33.5% with total sales of 162,273 units. For the same period previous year sales were 121,565 units.
