India’s biggest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, said it has exceeded the highlight of producing 3 lakh K Series engines, its most advanced engine which powers new variants, including A Star, Swift, Swift Dzire and Ritz.
The record was achieved within 19 months of launching the engine series in India, a top company official said.
The official said, “Going forward, the K-series engine will play a key role in Maruti Suzuki’sstrategy in consolidating its leading position in the Indian automobile sector”.
Besides the cars which already use the K-series engines, it will be slowly used in other models over a period of another 3-5 years, he added.
MSI presently holds more than 50% share in Indian car market. Previous fiscal, it sold 7,65,526 units from a total of 15,26,787 units of passenger cars sold in the local market.
Maruti Suzuki has 2 models of the K series engines — 998cc three-cylinder, ‘K10B’ used in A-star, Estilo, and the new WagonR and a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder ‘K12M’ petrol engine used in Ritz, Swift and Swift Dzire.
Besides the K Series, MSI also has other engine series like the F Series used in the M800 and Alto, G Series used in multi utility van Eeco and the M Series used in sedan SX4.
