The OnePlus 6 is indeed a great upgrade from its predecessor. But does it live up to all the hype surrounding it? Here’s a quick review.
The much-awaited OnePlus 6 hit the Indian market on the 22nd of May. The Chinese company claims to have sold units worth Rs. 100 crore within just 10 minutes in the preview sale itself. Now that’s some number, isn’t it?

So what’s with OnePlus that gets it so much attention? Their strategy, of course, and then good marketing. OnePlus seems to maintain the right balance – top-class design and performance offered at a price-tag that puts all the top smartphone makers to shame. So, did OnePlus play it right once again with the OnePlus 6? Here’s what I feel after playing around with the device for over a week now:
Impressive, Much!
Quite a lot of the features that the OnePlus 6 offers managed to amaze me. From the snappy Face Unlock feature to a beautiful display, the OnePlus packed in all the right things, at least for me. Let me quickly point out everything about the phone that amazed me:
The amazing 6.28-inch display – I just can’t take my eyes off it. It’s bright, colourful and sharp. And I liked the notch at the top too. Also, there are five different display modes available. I especially loved the Reading Mode and Night Mode.
The OnePlus 6 is a great performer indeed. Everything is fluid and smooth. Multi-tasking is a breeze, apps load faster than the blink of an eye (okay, that’s a little bit of exaggeration!), and you can play any game available on the Play Store without facing any glitches or lags.
The primary camera is pretty awesome too. I know that people have been slamming it across the Internet for not meeting expectations. But, from my experience, the OnePlus 6’s primary camera does its job well.
Apart from these three features that I totally loved, I was also awed by the classy glass design, the snappy Face Unlock addition (though it’s a bit of an issue in low light conditions), the fast fingerprint sensor at the back, and most importantly the affordable price tag.

That Didn’t Impress Me Much!
Although most people have been cribbing about the lack of wireless charging, I don’t think it is much of a loss (thanks to Dash Charge). But, on that note, I wasn’t really impressed with the battery life of the OnePlus 6. It does pack a 3,300 mAh battery which is pretty decent. However, I found the phone running out of power if I indulged a little too much in YouTube, Prime Video or Netflix. P.S. I am not complaining!
Another let down for me was the selfie camera. My iPhone 6s Plus had an amazing selfie camera. The one on the OnePlus 6 didn’t really live up to my expectations.
Well, apart from these, I genuinely didn’t find anything else unimpressive about the phone.
In short, the OnePlus 6 gets almost everything right. But not everything can be perfect, right?
