Tamilnad Mercantile Bank in a quandary on Ramesh Vangal’s stake holding

By | September 19, 2010

The board of Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) has been encountering standard hassles about ownership on behalf of doubtful shareholders. Now it is facing a new problem about famous shareholder, Ramesh Vangal. The question is if Vangal is yet a shareholder of the bank or not.

The bank’s board had got a letter from Standard Chartered Bank some time ago which said that Vangal had sold off his shareholding with TMB to StanChart. But on the same day, a letter was sent by Vangal saying that he is still the shareholder of TMB.

Both letters were handed over to RBI. Another board meeting is now being planned to be held about this issue in the next few weeks.

A top TMB official said We are awaiting RBI’s response. While the sale deed shows a transfer of shares, Mr Vangal claims he hasn’t sold any shares”.
