Tata Nano to be India’s 2nd largest selling car

Tata Nano, is anticipated to become India’s 2nd largest selling car next year, as per market research company JD Power.

As per a report by JD Power, Nano will take over Hyundai’s i10, which is postioned to take the 2nd  spot in 2010 after Maruti Suzuki’s Alto. TataMotor’s Indica will be the 3rd  largest seller this year. Marvin Zhu and Ammar Master, JD Power Asia Pacific Forecasting Senior Market Analysts said, “the Nano is projected to hold the number two spot in 2011 after Tata ramps up production”.

They added, “By 2017, we think the top three models will be the Alto, Nano and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R”.

Presently Alto is the largest selling car brand in the country, selling 25,000 units a month on an average.

According to the report, the total sales of mini and sub- compact cars would be 9,97,000 units in 2010, going up to 3.14 million units by 2017.

The size of the Indian local passenger car market was more than 15 lakh units in 2009-10 and is increasing at a rate of around 30% a month in this fiscal.
