16% increase in credit card transactions in Q1

In the Q1 of FY 2010-11 there has been about 16% increase in credit card transactions valued at Rs 16,947.86 crore.

The transactions reported for the same period in the previous fiscal were worth Rs. 14,611.66 crore.

But there has been a fall in the number of credit cards in circulation by 17% to 1.89 crore as of June 30, as compared to 2.28 crore for the same period in the previous fiscal.

There has been an increase in the debit card transactions in the same quarter by over 47% at Rs 8,064.50 crore, as compared to Rs 5,480.62 crore for the year-ago period.

The figure of debit cards in circulation in the country has increased up to 19.19 crore as of June 30 as against 14.64 crore for the same period previous fiscal.
