For centuries, the paranormal has fascinated people all over the world. Ghosts, ghouls, goblins, George Bush – they’ve all played their part in giving many of us sleepless nights ever since we were no bigger than a sapling. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your perspective, we now spend our nights tossing and turning over Credit Card bills and loan repayments.
However, if you have a penchant for things that go bump in the night, then there are certain locations around the world that have been giving locals and travellers alike the heebie-jeebies since time immemorial. So, if you still have a sense of adventure, or you’ve become numb to horrifying experiences after gawking at your Credit Card statement every month, then visiting these five incredibly mysterious and creepy places could be exactly what you need to get your juices flowing.
1) Loch Ness
First up on our list is the enigmatic and shadowy Loch Ness in Scotland. This lake has captivated cryptozoologists for ages, mainly because of the enormous sea creature that is rumoured to be roaming its waters. Yup! We’re talking about Nessie. Or more popularly known as the Loch Ness monster.
If the possibility of coming face to face with a gigantic, pre-historic beast who isn’t your mother-in-law excites you, then hop onto the first flight to one of the major Scottish cities like Glasgow and book a cheap flight or bus to Inverness. Getting to the lake from there is a snap. In fact, with a Travel Credit Card you could earn travel miles, rewards and discounts that could make your trip that much more memorable.

2) The Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle, as you probably may have heard, is a stretch of sea that is infamous for the disappearance of a number of planes and ships. Many pilots, sailors and travellers have experienced strange phenomena in and around this area, with compasses going haywire and communications equipment malfunctioning.
Now getting there isn’t really feasible, unless you manage to get yourself onto a boat or ship that is foolhardy enough to pass through this expanse of ocean. In any case, make sure you purchase a good Travel Insurance policy that will cover you in case something happens. You certainly wouldn’t want to vanish into thin air unless you’re looking to renege on that Home Loan you took out a while ago.

3) Hoia Baciu Forest
Here’s a slightly offbeat location that’s sure to give you the creepy crawlies. The Hoia Baciu forest in Romania is widely considered to be one of the most haunted forests on the planet. Locals have reported strange lights in the sky over this particular area while intrepid explorers have experienced feelings of ‘uneasiness’ while walking through it. The strange topography also adds to the bizarre nature of this location, making it an extremely ominous place to visit, especially at night.
Since you never know what you might encounter on your travels there, taking out a solid Health Insurance policy should be at the top of your list of priorities. Remember, this forest is not for the faint-hearted, so you will certainly need some sort of Insurance to fall back on in case things go awry. These woods definitely give the phrase ‘barking up the wrong tree’ a new meaning.

4) Aokigahara
Ah, Japan! The land of Samurais, Manga, Godzilla, Sushi and oversized Sumo wrestlers wearing nothing but colourful towels to protect their modesty. But no matter how bizarre Japan is, nothing could possibly compare to the downright eeriness of Aokigahara, also popularly known as the Suicide Forest. Yup, this is where people come to off themselves, for whatever reason. And just like the Hoia Bacui forest, this one is also allegedly extremely haunted. Can’t imagine why though!
People claim to have witnessed apparitions, ghostly shapes, disembodied moans and UFO sightings galore. Are they real or are they the effects of sushi gone bad? You decide.
However, if you do fancy a trip to this place, you could also do some sight-seeing since the forest is located at the foot of Mount Fuji. But hey, don’t forget to take out a Term Life Insurance policy. You know, just in case you come across a rogue fish dish.

4) The Well of Sheshna
And finally, something closer to home. The Well of Sheshna in Varanasi is rumoured to be a gateway to the underworld of the Nagas, or more affectionately known as the Serpent People or the Lizard men. This impressive structure apparently features a doorway at the bottom of the well, which can be seen when the well is completely drained.
This entrance, which is ‘decorated’ by images of two cobras on either side, is said to lead to an underground ‘base’ populated by an ancient reptilian species, who have seemingly infiltrated all levels of government on a global scale to carry out their nefarious plans of world domination. But, then again, they could just be looking for flies.
Anyway, if you fancy making the short trip to Varanasi, you could take a local flight or you could go one better. By taking out a Car Loan you could drive yourself there and take in some of the city’s sights and sounds at your leisure. And if you happen to chance upon any of our scaly friends, do tell them that they have a press conference to attend to at the White House.
