Catholic Syrian Bank has set up the first biometric ATM

A recent press report has said that private sector lender Catholic Syrian Bank has set up the first biometric ATM from its side. The ATM has been set at a village called Ozhur in Malappuram district of Kerala.

Reports said that the installation of the biometric ATM has come up as a step ahead towards financial inclusion on the part of the bank. Mr. Jiz Kottukappally, Assistant General Manager of the bank said that the bank has planned to add another 50 such biometric ATMs across various locations in this fiscal. He said that the ATMs would have all normal features of a conventional ATM along with added ones including weather information, commodity price and stock prices.

The Catholic Syrian Bank was founded on November 26, 1920 in Thrissur city and commenced business on January 1, 1921 with an authorized capital of Rs 5 lakhs and a paid up capital of Rs 4, 5270. In August 1969, the bank was included in the Second Schedule to the Reserve Bank of India Act 1934. The bank offers home loan, personal loan, educational loan, mortgage loan etc.
