Catholic Syrian bank to focus on business growth

Within a month of assuming office as Managing Director and Chief Executive Office of Catholic Syrian Bank, Mr V. P. Eswardas, has signalled the bank’s aggressiveness on the business front with the completion of his first round of visit to all regions.

Speaking to a leading business daily, Mr. Iswardas said that in the next leg, he is planning to meet customers in other metros.  He said, “It will be on an ongoing basis and at regular interval. We are targeting a business of Rs 12,500 crore by the end of the current fiscal.”

On the topic of branch expansion, Mr Eswardas said the bank was looking to expand its network in the north and added, “Our immediate aim is to have a branch representation in all district headquarters and semi-urban areas.”

He informed that the bank has applied for licences to open branches in 50 centres and the proposal for opening 50 offsite ATMs was also under consideration of the banking regulator.

Currently, as a prelude to the expansion plans, the bank is in the process of establishing banking kiosks in the rural and unbanked areas. The kiosks would have touch-screen facility and would provide information about the weather and commodity/equity updates  in the local language besides serving as a cash dispenser.
