H1B Visas could be granted using a Lottery Scheme-An End User’s Perspective
The much sought after H1B visas, could for the first time in almost five years, be granted through a lottery system
The most powerful economy in the world has been surrounded by skepticism in the recent past. With the USA, being the epicenter of the economic slump that shook the world, experts were consistently circumspect about the recovering capabilities of the economy. The economy though is giving tough competition to the claims of these experts, as it is showing tremendous signs of recovery, becoming the cynosure of the world of investors yet again. The positive outlook that this trend has generated, has finally got some good news for the huge technical workforce of nations like India. India has traditionally been the highest contributor to the software industry of the USA, and the trend is likely to continue with the advent of a better economic situation in America. The number of applications for H1B visas as a result, is expected to grow significantly, which has led to a change in the current selection procedure.
The limit for these technical visas currently sits at around 65,000, and in case the application number exceeds that, the respective American authorities are contemplating the usage of a lottery system, to fill the cap. The American government is also considering a bill that could double the number of H1B visas available to the Indian technocrats, in lieu of the increasing demands of the American Software industry.
The news comes as a good one for the Indian masses, as the move points towards the elevated expectation level of the American economy, which would directly translate into better earnings for them. The move was previously executed in April 2008, when the cap was filled on the first day of the applications itself. No matter what be the selection procedure, the single largest beneficiary will be the Indian workforce, as the better economic times and a prospective increase in the number of H1B visas, would open up new avenues for their growth.
