Maruti Suzuki introduced an all-new WagonR, recharging the second largest selling model in its stable after Alto. The car features the new KB10 engine, new transmission, new suspension and new platform but is priced slightly more than the previous WagonR (at introductory rates). The source model Lx is available for Rs 3.28 lakh, Lxi for Rs 3.57 lakh and Vxi for Rs 3.81 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).The new WagonR will rival Chevrolet Beat costing Rs 3.41 lakh-Rs 4.43 lakh, Ford Figo Rs 3.49 lakh-Rs 3.99 lakh and Hyundai i10 Rs 3.47 lakh-Rs 3.83 lakh.
Unlike the previous model, the new car is fitted with a one litre engine (was 1.1 litre previously) but as it is advanced engine, the car is more potent at 68 ps with 90 nm of torque. It also provides alternatives of ABS and dual airbags, with a turning radius of 4.6 metres, fitted with tubeless tyres and has fuel efficiency of 18.9 kmpl. But there is no automatic transmission alternative available yet.
Shinzo Nakanishi, MD and CEO said, “The new WagonR is important for Maruti Suzuki for many reasons. It demonstrates the growing research and development capability of the company and gives the customer an all-new, BS IV compliant vehicle”.
Maruti has invested a enormous Rs 290 crore in designing this car. He said WagonR sells 10,000-12,000 units per month and this result will carry on with the new model, too. But the dual fuel model, which has a petrol and LPG combination has no upgraded version till now. This car, known as WagonR Duo, sells around 1,000-1,200 units per month.
Also with low-cost car loans, it is expected that the car loans will impact the sales.
