Saraswat Bank fixes business target of Rs 25,000 crores for next fiscal

Saraswat Bank, the largest cooperative bank in the country, has said it has fixed a goal for total business amounting to Rs 25,000 crore in the present financial year, as compared to Rs 23,500 crore in FY2009-10.

Eknath Thakur, Chairman of Saraswat Bank said, “We are a good bank and now we aspire to become a great bank”.

He said the bank has accepted a concentrated growth plan, having already taken over 7 cooperative banks by spending valued at Rs 280 crore.

The bank intends to expand organically too, he said, while adding that it will start 250 branches by the end of 2011. Currently, the bank has more than 200 branches extending throughout 6 states.

Thakur was talking at a function for the inauguration of Saraswat Bank Bhawan, an advanced Corporate Centre was opened by Air Chief Marshal P V Naik in Central Mumbai.

The new Corporate Centre has improved the bank’s brand image and altered the idea of people who previously looked at cooperative banks as outdated financial institutions, he said.
