Getting your voter ID is simple. If you’re looking to cast your vote for the very first time or simply looking to make changes to your electoral details, you can easily do so online. All you need to do is log on to the National Voter Service Portal (NSVP) and follow the instructions.

What is the NSVP?

The NSVP portal allows new voters to register themselves and lets existing voters make changes or alterations to the details on their Voter ID by filling in the relevant form on the website and uploading any supporting documents that may be required.

Even if you can’t make it all the way to your constituency office, you can use the NSVP portal to change your location and update your address accordingly. It is an incredibly convenient and hassle-free way of ensuring that you are ready to cast your vote when the time comes.

What Forms Should You Fill Out?

That’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? The NSVP portal has 5 different forms that take into consideration every type of requirement that an individual may look to fulfil with regard to his or her Voter ID.

1) Form 001

Lost your voter ID card and want a replacement? Use this form. Just give details like your name, date of birth, address and voter ID number. You can choose to collect the card from the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or Voter Registration Centre (VRC). Or you can choose to get it via post or collect it directly from the Booth Level Officer (BLO). All you need to do is select the convenient option.

2) Form 6

If you’re an Indian citizen looking to get a Voter ID, and if you are at least 18 years of age, then all you need to do is fill this form on the NSVP website.

You will also be required to upload the following supporting documents:

You can also fill up this form if you have moved away from your home constituency and currently live elsewhere in the country.

3) Form 6A

If you are an Indian citizen but are currently residing in a country other than India, then you will be required to fill this form and submit this form online to get yourself a Voter ID. You also have to be at least 18 years of age and must not be a citizen of any other country.

Keep in mind that if you fulfil this criterion, you will be registered in the same constituency. This will be as per the address mentioned in your passport.

4) Form 7

In case a person has passed away or shifted his or her residence, then you can fill and submit this form if:

Remember though, that once you fill up this form, the onus is on you to provide ample proof supporting your reasons.

5) Form 8

If you already possess a Voter ID and are only looking to make corrections or changes to your electoral roll details, then this form should be filled and submitted along with the relevant supporting documents.

Do note that you can only submit this form to make changes to your own Voter ID details and not anyone else’s.

6) Form 8A

This form can be filled and submitted if you have moved from one location to another in the same constituency and you wish to transfer your name to the appropriate electoral roll of your constituency.
