In a hurry to get your passport? Apply for a tatkaal passport and get your passport within 1 to 3 days. Here’s how to go about it.
Getting a passport would have been a hassle before, but not anymore! Surprised?
Of course, if you apply for your passport via the normal application procedure, it may take anywhere from 4 to 8 days to get your passport. And you’ll probably have to spend an entire day at the Passport Seva Kendra too. Agreed. But if you opt for the tatkaal application process, then you can get your passport within 1 to 3 working days. Cool, huh?
So, if you need your passport urgently and are willing to shell out a little extra to get your application processed quickly, then you should opt for the tatkaal process. Tatkaal service is available for both new passport applications and renewal applications.
How To Apply Via Tatkaal Process
Applying for a Tatkaal passport is easy-breezy! Here’s the step-by-step process:
- Visit the official portal of Passport Seva (http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink).

- Once you’re done registering, you can log in to the portal using the user ID and password that you provided during registration.
- Once you’ve logged in, you’ll see a list of services that you can choose to apply for. From the list, click on the Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport option.
- Now you can choose from two alternatives – either you can download the e-form, fill it and upload it later, or you can fill the application form online and submit it. The former alternative is good for those who do not have a broadband Internet connection.
- For the tatkaal application process, make sure that you select the Tatkaal option in the application form.
- Fill the application form, upload the necessary documents, and submit it.
