Maruti Suzuki India introduced its 5 models in CNG flavors, including the top-selling Alto. Other 4 models that have been launched with this new alternative include compact cars Estilo and WagonR, multi-purpose vehicle Eeco and mid-sized sedan SX4.
The CNG versions of these models cost between Rs 323,000 and Rs 747,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The step was taken when the company’s market share has fallen below 50% in this fiscal.
It has taken various measures like introducing a 1,000-cc model of the Alto and an automatic transmission model of its A-Star hatchback, to recover its lost market share.
Shinzo Nakanishi, Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO said, “The development is significant on multiple counts. This is the first instance when a car manufacturer has developed and launched factory-fitted, technologically superior CNG engines in India”.
He added, “The company’s big ticket entry into the CNG fuel segment augurs well for the environment”.
MSI introduced the CNG model of the country’s most popular car, Alto, costing Rs 323,000.
The CNG model of the Estilo will cost Rs 405,000, while the WagonR version will sell for Rs 411,000.
The CNG model of the Eeco costs Rs 364,000, while the SX4 model will be priced Rs 747,000.
