After a record sales of 1 lakh scooters within mere 10 months, Mahindra & Mahindra is now preparing up plans to venture into the local motor-cycle market by this year end, a senior company official said.

Anoop Mathur, Mahindra two-Wheelers’ president said, “We have achieved a milestone by selling one lakh scooters in just 10 months as against a set target of 18 months. Our plan now is to enter the motor-cycle market by end-this year”.

He added, “We are working on a unique product that will be assembled in the same plant where our scooters are manufactured,” he said.

The company is creating the motor-cycle at its Italy-based Engines Engineering, which was purchased by the Mahindra group in 2008. Currently, the company’s Pithampur unit (where it manufactures its scooters) can make 5-6 lakh scooters each year.
