The Chennai floods had a devastating effect on the city and surrounding areas and though the floods have receded, the battle isn’t over yet. The next step is to rebuild and help the city recover. Towards this end, Bank Bazaar launched a new “One Loan Two Homes” program to help the flood-affected citizens of Chennai. Under this scheme, the company will contribute Rs.1000 to Habitat for Humanity India on every home loan disbursed between 1 Jan – 31 Mar, 2016. The money collected will be donated to Habitat for Humanity – a non-profit organization that builds homes and provides housing-related services to low-income, marginalized families across India – to build disaster-resilient homes for people affected by the floods. Working closely with its customers and Habitat for Humanity India, BankBazaar hopes to bring relief to the displaced people of Chennai.
This is not the only initiative by BankBazaar.com. Earlier, the BankBazaar team distributed more than 10,000 packets of food and provided other emergency supplies and essentials to the local Chennai public. During the worst of floods, some of the BankBazaar.com employees went out of their way to launch a rescue using boats, and helped evacuate more than 300 people stranded by the rising waters. During the floods, BankBazaar arranged for temporary accommodation for all employees and their families who were stranded due to water logging. BankBazaar also arranged for doctors to visit all its offices in Chennai to provide a free medical checkup and to reimburse all outpatient medical bills of flood-affected employees and their immediate families in December.
With this new program, BankBazaar brings its customers and the flood-affected one step closer to a home of their own.
