SBI has started a strategic training unit (STU), to bring the bank’s complete training system under a single command, led by a chief general manager. This was done with the aim of improving expertise, especially among the 25,000 extra recruitment that the bank is scheduling for the present financial year.
The bank, with more than 2 lakh employees, has one of the biggest training centres in the country. These comprise of 45 learning centres and 4 apex institutes. The STU, situated at Hyderabad, will be led by chief general manager Mahapara Ali.
The apex institute comprises of 3 Hyderabad-based institutes – State Bank Staff College and its 16.5-acre campus and the State Bank Institute of Rural Development. The 4th is the State Bank Academy, with an 11.5-acre campus in Gurgaon. Till date, the management of SBI’s educational network was handled by the corresponding operational units.
The central STU has been given the job of inching towards making SBI a ‘Learning Organisation’ competent of dealing with change and growth for a bank looking to be one the top 20 in the world, according to N Raja, corporate development officer & deputy MD of the bank, while opening the unit in Hyderabad.
