Are You A Financial Zombie?

By | January 27, 2018

If slobbering, rotting zombies fascinate you, you may be surprised to learn that some of their characteristics may resemble the way you deal with your finances.

Are You A Financial Zombie?

Every now and then, you’ve probably seen a bunch of people on TV walking around with a blank look on their faces while mumbling utter gibberish. No! We aren’t talking about local news channels. We’re talking about real (or unreal?), honest-to-goodness zombies. You know, those chaps with vocabulary on par with Donald Trump and his ilk.

But, as terrifying and decrepit as they are, zombies display characteristics that closely resemble the way some of us deal with our finances. And by that, we don’t mean heading to a bank and chomping off the teller’s hand when applying for a Credit Card or a Personal Loan.

What we’re trying to say is, if you share the following traits that zombies seem to exhibit, then it’s probably time to make some changes to your financial lifestyle before you’re left shambling down the streets with nothing else but the shirt on your back and a disembowelled pigeon in your hand.

Lethargic

The classic zombie is a slow, ponderous creature that can barely move faster than a turtle after a 12-course meal. While they were certainly dangerous in older movies due to their sheer numbers, individually they could be outpaced quite comfortably.

If you’re similarly lethargic when it comes to making your Credit Card payments, for example, you need to quicken up the pace at which you pay back your outstanding dues. The more you delay, the farther you will be from attaining financial freedom. You certainly don’t want to be swamped with massive interest charges that could leave you looking like you just walked off the set of Dawn of the Dead.

Gluttonous

The typical zombie has a voracious appetite. If there’s one characteristic that defines zombies, it’s their constant craving for flesh. They can never seem to get enough to eat. And they are always looking for their next victim immediately after they’re done gnawing at each unsuspecting victim.

If you happen to share their gluttonous nature, then you need to cut back on those calories pronto! Not only does it lead to an unhealthy lifestyle, but constantly swiping your Debit or Credit Card to buy things to eat can seriously drain your Savings Account in no time at all. Rein in your spending, especially when it comes to eating junk food. And you’ll see both your health and your finances improve over a short span of time.

In any case, you would do well to take out a solid Health Insurance policy to be on the safe side. Just make sure you don’t eat that as well.

Contagious

Everyone and their dog knows that if you ever get bitten by a zombie, it’s only a matter of time before you turn into one too. And before you know it, you’re probably infecting everyone else around you as well.

This is exactly what happens when you make bad financial decisions or display poor financial skills, especially if you’re in charge of your family’s finances. If you display signs of lavish spending or if you aren’t in the habit of saving for a rainy day, the same traits tend to be picked up by the rest of the family, especially the children. Teaching them the importance of saving and budgeting at an early age is imperative if the entire family is to achieve its financial goals in the long run.

Non-Communicative

One of the most endearing traits of zombies is their penchant for always saying the right thing at the right time. Who wouldn’t want to have a conversation with someone who goes ‘’AURGHHHARGHH’’ or ‘’BWAAUGGLUGHHHH’’ every few minutes?

Sounds amusing, but if you’re taking out a Term Life Insurance policy or consulting a financial advisor, for example, you need to be as descriptive as possible about your situation and your finances. Suppressing any relevant or important information could land you in a world of trouble with your Insurance company or lender. So, the next time you’re looking to acquire Insurance or a Loan, make sure you don’t grunt and slobber your way through.

Impassive

Zombies are emotionless beings. They couldn’t really care less if you hacked off their arms. Or if you told them they have bad body odour or bad table manners. As long as they get their fill one way or another, they are unaffected by what goes on around them.

When it comes to Investments, it is certainly in your best interest to pay attention to what your money is up to. Many investors tend to not turn a blind eye to how their investments are performing. And so, they fail to take any corrective action until it’s too late. If you don’t want to be a financial mess, take interest in where your money is going and what it’s doing. You certainly don’t want to see you wealth trickle away due to your own apathy.
