We have a mobile app too – check it out!

But if you simply want to check your bank balance on your phone and don’t have internet, 3G or 4G on your cell phone, then worry not. Because you can still check your bank balance without internet on your mobile phone or for that matter, a smartphone. Here are two ways to do it:
-
Enable The Missed Call Feature
This process is hassle-free because most banks have enabled this feature for their customers to access their account details. All you have to do is give a missed call to the number provided by your respective bank.
Your bank will have a 10-digit mobile number that you can use to give a missed call and disconnect after 2 to 3 rings. Upon disconnecting the call, you will receive an SMS that will have your bank balance and mini-statement of the last couple of transactions (usually five).
But to enable this, you will have to ensure that your mobile number is registered with your bank and has been linked to your account number. And that’s not all. This facility is free for all customers. So, hurray!
To locate this toll-free number, you can visit your bank’s website and look for the number stated to avail this service.
-
Use The Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code
USSD is a Global System For Mobile (GSM) communication technology that is used to send text between a mobile phone number and an application program in the network. The National Payments Corporation Of India (NPCI) introduced this facility for all banking customers to access their banking information.
The USSD code is *99# (are you taking notes yet?) and is not related to any service provider or to any particular bank. But you can dial it from your phone and then follow the instructions that pop on your screen. You will have to enter your bank account details to check your account balance.
The best thing about the *99# code is that is works without internet, can be used from any type of mobile device, can be used to check balance on all days including holidays and you don’t have to download anything to activate this service on your phone.

Additional Services From The *99# Code
If using this code wasn’t cool enough, the USSD code can be used for a bunch of other things too. Here are some of the other facilities it entails:
- You can transfer money by using the IFSC code and bank account details of the beneficiary using this service
- You can check your balance and request for a mini statement
- You can generate a mobile PIN or MPIN via the USSD code function
- You can also transfer funds using the Aadhaar Card number of the beneficiary as long as it is linked to his/her bank account
- You can check your MMID (Mobile Money Identifier) through the *99# code function
- You can also send money to another bank account through MMID and mobile number of the beneficiary

The Difference Between The Missed Call Service And USSD Code Service
The biggest difference between both these services is that with the missed call service, you can only check your account balance and get a mini bank statement of your account. But with the USSD code service you can do a lot more like, make payments, request for a MPIN and check for your MMID too.
